Firefly configuration
How to configure Firefly soft-phone.
Important Notice
FG&A doesn't provide any support for the Firefly softphone. It is provided here on an "as is" basis. Although Firefly should work for most Windows versions, there is no guarantee that it will work for your specific version. Beware that possible reasons for Firefly (or other softphones) not properly working might be:
- Some specific TCP ports locked by a firewall,
- On Windows, viruses or conflicting software installed.
Download Firefly
You can download here the Firefly softphone, which is available for Windows 2000/XP and then follow the easy Setup installation procedure.
Once downloaded, you should decide which protocol to use, if SIP or IAX. We suggest the IAX protocol (although SIP is the de-facto standard) since it has much better support for NAT traversal. And if you are behind NAT, you'll almost surely might have problems when using SIP.
Configuring Firefly for IAX
Select Menu|Options. Then, select either one of the available Networks (Network 8, in the example). A form similar to the following one will open. Then you should enter the following:
- Network Type: select IAX
- Server: enter the IP address of your PBX server.
- Username: enter the the Asterisk-based IAX username with which you are known to your PBX (the id used in iax.conf). When registering with Voice@work this will usually be a system-generated integer which you system administrator should have provided.
- Password: enter the Asterisk-based password (the one specified in iax.conf). Ask to your PBX system administrator for your password.
Press OK. Then wait for the registration to happen. Once registered you'll have the upper green led turned on (as showed on the left image below). Instead, in case of failed registration the green led won't light-up and you'll get an error message. If so, please contact your PBX administrator for support.
Configuring Firefly for SIP

- Server: enter the IP address of your PBX server.
- Username: enter the the Asterisk-based SIP username with which you are known to your PBX (the id used in sip.conf). When registering with Voice@work this will usually be a system-generated integer which you system administrator should have provided.
- Password: enter the Asterisk-based password (the one specified in sip.conf). Ask to your PBX system administrator for your password.
- Use STUN: check this box if you are behind NAT and you need NAT Traversal support for SIP protocol.
Press OK. Then wait for the registration to happen. Once registered you'll have the upper green led turned on (as showed on the left image below). Instead, in case of failed registration the green led won't light-up and you'll get an error message. If so, please contact your PBX administrator for support.
